Abba Moses Free Clinic

The Abba Moses Free Clinic is operated out of the medical clinic of Dr. Carla Thomas (whose baptized name is Panteleimona after St. Panteleimon, 7/27). St. Panteleimon is an unmercenary, physician and great martyr who healed people of illnesses in the name of Jesus Christ. Thus, Dr. Thomas wanted to be an unmercenary. An unmercenary is a saintly healer who charges no fees, in order to give glory unto God.

The segment of the population that suffers the most neglect of health is the 19-64 year old group. This group is also most often uninsured. It is this group that the Abba Moses Clinic serves. Like the Unmercenaries, Abba Moses is a desert father who was known for his works of mercy.

 Prison Outreach

Participate in prison outreach through the internet. Consider writing a letter that should be about 250 words. You may remain anonymous if you choose. Email the letter to panteleimonmd@aol.com  first then it will be sent to the prisoner.

For training, please keep in mind these four ethical guides:
respect, beneficence, non-maleficence and justice.

1. Respect the prisoner's right to reject or accept advice. Orthodoxy is the truth and the light. Therefore, it does not require force. Alas, the Lord desires mercy and gives us free will.

2. Beneficence is kindness and forgiveness.

3. Non-maleficence is doing no harm.

4. Justice refers not only to the fact that we are the first among sinners but also to the fact that God, who alone is righteous, knows the heart and cross that each person bears.

Remember prisoners depend not only on your letters but also on your prayers.

 High School Retension Program

The program is a joint venture of the Anniston Chapter of Brotherhood of St Moses the Black and St Luke Orthodox Mission. We are developing a program to introduce high school teens to the Orthodox faith through active participation in after school activities and services. We will soon be moving to buildings located right next to the Anniston High School and hope to start this program soon.
